Fake Domain Invoices

We want to make you aware of fake domain renewal invoices currently being sent to Irish businesses.

These emails look professional and often include your domain name and company details. One example claims to be from “IDS Ireland” and charges €81 for a so-called “renewal notification service.”

Current Example: “IDS Ireland”

A renewal notification service invoice showing renewal details, domain name, company name, contact email, payment options, and sender information at the bottom.

Please note:

  • This company is not an accredited Irish domain registrar.
  • The invoice includes no VAT number and no VAT breakdown.
  • Legitimate registrars do not charge separately for renewal notifications.

You should never pay more than €19.99 for a standard .ie domain renewal with SmartHost.

If you receive an invoice that is higher than this or does not match your account, treat it as suspicious.

If you receive a renewal notice:

  1. Do not click payment links in the email.
  1. Log in directly to your registrar’s official website.
  1. Check your renewal status and pricing inside your account.

If your domain is registered with one of the following providers and you are unsure, contact them directly:

When in doubt, pause and verify before making payment.
