Upcoming Changes to .IE Domain Restores – Effective 1st August 2025

From 1st August 2025, a new €80.00 + VAT restore fee will apply to any .IE domain name that enters the redemption period after its renewal due date has passed.

What Is Changing?

Currently, .ie domains can be renewed at the standard renewal rate for a period of 45 days after expiry. Under the new process:

• Domains can still be renewed at the normal price during the first 45 days after expiration.

• After this 45-day period, the domain enters a 30-day redemption period.

• If a domain is renewed during the redemption period, an additional fee of €80.00 + VAT will now apply, in addition to the standard renewal fee.

• Once the redemption period ends, the domain will become unavailable for renewal and will be released back to the public approximately 5 days later.

How This Affects SmartHost Customers

If your .ie domain is renewed within the standard 45-day grace period following expiry, no additional charge will apply. However, if your domain enters the redemption period, the €80.00 + VAT restore fee will be added to the renewal cost.

You can review and manage your domain renewals at any time through your SmartHost account. Please also ensure your contact details and billing information are up to date to prevent any interruption to your domain ownership.

Our Recommendation

We strongly encourage all customers to renew their domains on time to avoid this additional cost and the risk of domain loss. If you have a domain with an upcoming expiry date, please check that your contact details and payment settings are up to date in your SmartHost account.
