3. Verify Your Domain

You’ll need to verify that you own the domain you entered. Our tool provides simple instructions for doing this. Either add a DNS record or upload a file to your website, depending on your most convenient method – we provide both methods by default.

4. Certificate Type

SmartHost’s free SSL generator creates standard DV (Domain Validation) certificates, the most common type for personal websites and small businesses. If you need an OV/EV certificate (for higher levels of validation), we offer those as well, but they come with a fee, and can be ordered separately.

5. Download Your Certificate

Once verified, you’ll receive your SSL certificate files, including the certificate itself and a private key. Keep these files secure, as they’re essential for encrypting your website’s traffic.

6. Install and Configure
